This is a bulletin board you will be proud to display in your classroom. This project has 86 pages of printable material that you will want to print on a color printer. There are 35 photos, most with captions, relating to the novel, Flush by Carl Hiaasen. Also included are two different sets of 15 characters (fish), each with character descriptions. (You will only want one set, they are provided here for choice.) Use colorful paper to print out your fish. As you can see in the photo, I used green.
The fifteen character fish are printed by reversing each sheet of paper and printing the character description inside the folded fish. They are draped over a twisted ribbon to give the appearance of fish swimming through water or waves (see bulletin board photo). You might have your students remove the fish from the bulletin board and test one another.
Nelson Mandela, Mike Tyson, Jimmy Buffett, Donald Trump, James Bond, Steven Spielberg, and Brad Pitt are all referenced in this novel. I call them “Referenced Characters” and provide a picture and reference information based on the novel.
The title page of the novel mentions The Green Flash, and I have included information about the Green Flash which is also mentioned several times in the novel.
This bulletin board includes many of the animals mentioned in the novel, and pictures of different boats and boat information. Also included are titles ~ Characters, Referenced Characters, and Setting.
Make your bulletin board look professional with matted photos. Simply cut a colored piece of paper an inch larger than your photo. Make your bulletin board pleasing to the eye by matting your photos with the same colors used on your banner. Cutting is much easier and faster when using a paper trimmer. A glue stick works best for mounting your photos. After you have matted all your photos laminate them and you will be able to reuse your material year after year.
