This is a grounding exercise that works well in a number of situations. If a student (or class) is upset, panicky, worried and anxious, not focusing, just needs to calm down or maybe settle before an exam or test, this activity is very useful.
Brief Explanation - Students will think of 5 things they can see, hear and feel in the present moment, working there way down each round to 4,3,2 and finally 1 thing. At the end of exercise the student is calmer and more focused because they arrive in the present moment and get out of past or future thoughts.
It doubles as a good speech/vocabulary activity for lower grade or ESL students.
This download comprises of a description, brief instructions and an answer worksheet (if you would rather the students write their answers instead of verbally giving their answers, the worksheet is useful).
