How does the shape of a paper airplane impact its flight?

This lab can serve as an introduction to motion, a lead-in to Bernoulli's Principle, or a reinforcement of the scientific method (independent variable, dependent variable, experimental controls). It’s a fun way to get students engaged in a hands-on way and could even work well as an end-of-the-year activity.

Students will use step-by-step instructions from the FoldNFly website (www.foldnfly.com) to

I follow up this lab activity with:
- Excel for data analysis (sorting data using filters, calculating averages, and creating bar graphs of results)
- Motion vocabulary (distance vs. displacement, speed vs. velocity, acceleration, and force)
- Bernoulli’s Principle (explanation and applications)

Optional technology tie-ins include data collection via Google Forms and follow-up data analysis using Microsoft Excel.
