This resource is an easy to use for students’ daily reading and honing in on select skills. Make copies of those skills you wish students to hone in on by utilizing front to back of page. Have students keep in novelettes. If students are working in groups why not allow them to select one or more squares to complete for homework. Students may also enjoy creating their own question or area of focus by completing the blank foldable sheet [in this way students use their general literary skills and knowledge to vary thinking/writing tasks]. Two pages have specific categories. Students may simply circle the skill at the top of the box/page to indicate the area of their focus.
There is also a foldable page of “what’s hot.” This is intended to draw the student into the reading early on by having them determine areas of importance. For all of these sheets it is encouraged students give an answer with a reason.
The remaining foldables are to engage students as they read; practice makes perfect.
One last suggestion is to run off these sheets and place in an accessible area. Students may self-select during readers workshop and turn in completed sheet at the end of their reading session. This allows you to see which skill they feel comfortable with and which is least selected. That in turn may drive your own instruction. There is a blank page included for your own question, etc.
This resource is in both color and black & white.
