Traditional literature is one of my favorite genres to teach! This set of Folk Tales and Legends Task Cards allows students the opportunity to reflect on their reading, and write about what they know. Implementing this set of task cards as part of your Reading and Writing Workshop will give students choice in their writing. Students will love sharing their responses as part of your workshop wrap-up! You can even use the questions on the task cards to guide your reading mini-lesson instruction! Having discussions about fairy tales centered around the task card topics/questions, will motivate students to respond to their own texts, using their own thoughts and ideas!
I have included 20 Folk Tales and Legends Task Cards in this set and 20 Reading Response Sheets.
To implement the task cards, you can:
*Print, laminate, and cut out 10-12 sets of task cards. (If I have 20 students, I will have 10 sets available for sharing—any less and some kiddos will be lost looking for a set). Place each set of cards on a ring and place all sets in a basket accessible to students. Students can respond in a Reading Response Journal. For each entry, I have students include: the book title, the genre, and the date.
*Print and copy a set of Folk Tales and Legends Reading Response packets. Bind the packets for students to write their reading responses in. The topics/questions in the packet are the same topics/questions in the task card set. You might prefer to collect the packets for assessment throughout or at the end of your genre study.
