This ZIP File consists of a PPT show containing a project that is great for literature circles/small groups --especially for a multi-cultural unit AND the PDF Version of PPT show for compatibility purposes and printing grading/rubric suggestions
Each group has 3 tasks to complete for the project.
The 7 slides in power point contain literary response tasks for students to complete, along with a project for groups to create for presentation.
Requirements include: background research of an assigned folktale, reading the folktale, creating a sequence chart of events, creating a folktale chart of research findings, acting out the tale, and comparing/contrasting one group's tale to another's after seeing all presentations. The final activity is for each student to compose a compare/contrast writing to turn in at end of project.
The rubric is in the power point, so students know exactly what is expected of them.
Groups find this project very enjoyable, since it's a little different take on literature circles from the typical roles.
Creative Literature Assignment with Folktales!
It has always been very successful with my students. The groups love the presentations and acting!
Additionally, you could always assign as an individual assignment or for partners. Folktales can be substituted for other shorter works as well.
Students utilize/apply the compare and contrast text structure in the culminating writing assignment.
