This one-page activity is a great way to kick off a lesson on following directions or to help students get their nerves out at the beginning of the year. I've done this for years after receiving something like this when I was a student. To use, tell students to read the directions carefully before completing the worksheet. The directions are purposely placed before the name to remind students to read the whole sheet before doing anything else. Students will likely nod their head and then start answering every item until they get to number 20 and realize that the only thing they had to do was put their name and date on the paper...oops! Each year, only a few students figure it out. You will get a kick out of their clapping and snapping as they get towards the end and you will have a great lead-in for a lesson on following the directions.
Beware! Students will want lots of extra copies to share with their friends!
