This activity really grabbed the attention of our students. They loved reading and following the directions to make Brain Soup in a Jar Mix. Their fun (and reading practice) was doubled when they worked with an adult at home to read the recipe card and make Brain Soup for their families!

Our students were focused and engaged in a way you won't see when you ask them to practice following directions using activities of the “Color the fire truck red. Color the grass green…” variety. We have designed many fun and motivating projects, which require students to follow a set of directions written for their grade level(s). Check them out in our store!

Special attention is paid to following steps in the proper order, and students hone their organizational skills by using checklists for the steps and materials. The end result is a tasty treat, a happy child, and a student who better understands the importance of following directions.

This packet includes a reproducible set of student directions, recipe cards, and jar labels. The shopping list for the teacher is comprised of easily found ingredients such as canning jars, ramen noodles (for the brains) and common herbs and spices.
