Fun with Directional Words For K-1 INCLUDES ELA & MATH
This fun Directional Words resource was created for my daughter’s kindergarten SpED class to encourage more practice with directional words. This was designed to be used with kindergarten, but it can also be used with any grade depending on the students’ level and language needs. This resource can be easily differentiated for use.
Here is what is included:
An original story that the teacher reads while students follow the directional words and move Mimi Mouse to the various locations explained. It is a fun story written somewhat in Rhyme format. At the end the students need to problem solve using directional words to get Mimi away from a cat in the room that woke while she was scurrying around. ( More stories like this one will be coming soon in another packet...so if you like this one...look for more to come!!)
Included are black and white and color copies for your convenience. My suggestion is to use the colored sheets and mice and run them off on cardstock, laminate and reuse as needed. See sample on previous page for idea.
Included for stronger readers are 3 pages of directional worksheets to read, cut and glue or these pages can be used in small group with a teacher or volunteer reading the sentences while children follow the directions.
5 pages that require the students to listen as the teacher reads directions using directional words and students follow along with their own copy of the pages.
5 pages where students sort activities or objects and glue them under the correct directional word heading. These can be done independently or with support depending on the student’s level.
3 pages where students circle objects that you might find according the directional words. For example: circle things you might find inside a house.
1 coloring directional word page for the teacher to read as children follow the directional words and perform the tasks described.
40 pages of math related worksheets that use numbers using direction words before, after and between.
