Our students enjoyed following directions to make these leprechaun cookie faces. Although the reading level on the student directions is 6.3, our 4th and 5th graders successfully read the directions and completed the project because they were so interested and motivated.
Do your students have trouble following directions? This was a widespread complaint in our district, but most of the activities we found were of the “Color the fire truck red. Color the grass green…” variety. So we designed our own fun and motivating projects, which require students to follow a set of directions written for their grade level(s).
Special attention is paid to following steps in the proper order, and students hone their organizational skills by using checklists for the steps and materials. The end result is a tasty treat, a happy child, and a student who better understands the importance of following directions.
This packet includes a reproducible set of student directions, a photograph of a student created leprechaun cookie face, a shopping list, and notes for the teacher.
