#BestOf2016Sale Students of all ages struggle with following directions. These activities are a fun way to practice listening and/or reading skills. Students are given a list of instructions. Then when time is up, they may check their answers to the answer key. Instructions vary from ‘draw a circle in the upper right corner’ to ‘take your age and multiply it by 2’. Download my preview for a more detailed example.
I use these activities as a warm up at the beginning of class, but they can be used at anytime during the day. Since I teach high school and like to reuse copies when possible, I like to print out a copy of the page and put it in a sheet protector or a more sturdy variety like the ones sold by C-LINE (link in the preview & product). Students can then use dry erase markers. Given the level of your students, give them a set amount of time to complete the instructions, show them the answer, and see how close they get!
Depending on the needs of your class you can give the instructions in written or verbal form.
As an enrichment or extension, once you have done several of these with the class, challenge your students to write their own for others to complete!
