Description
This is a versatile and interactive activity to target language and listening in a structured way. It targets following directions at a more advanced level for students that are ready for something beyond simple directions. It works for both teletherapy or face to face speech therapy!
This barrier game activity targets following directions at a variety of levels. The student listens to directions to make their matrix match the "answer". There are 40 pre-made matrices included, which are broken down into 4 different levels (3, 4, 5, and 6 critical elements). There are also TWO VERSIONS .... PRINTABLE (PDF) and NO PRINT (Google Slides™).
You can also make your own matrices to correspond to your student's individual goals/skill level (by adding more elements or concepts of time/sequence, position, size, or quantity). So many options! Additionally, you can integrate expressive language by switching "jobs" and letting the student be the “teacher” by giving you the directions. Kids love this! This is also a great activity for mixed groups.
This activity has so many possible uses, including:
★ Critical element directions for students with hearing loss or auditory processing difficulties
★ Following multi-step directions
★ Using descriptive language
★ Increasing length of utterance
★ Understanding and using concepts of color, size, quantity, position, time/sequence, etc.
★ Carry-over of articulation goals into structured conversation
The download comes in a zipped file with two PDFs:
- One PDF is PRINTABLE and can be used with markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.
- The other PDF contains a link to click to add to your Google Drive™ as a Google Slides™ activity. There are movable shapes that can be manipulated by the student to create the matrix. This version can be played in teletherapy via screen share.
