In this activity, students are given 9 organisms that would live in a forest. They cut the organisms out and create food webs with them. (There are several correct versions of food chains so students will see that often animals will at may different things in a forest). The students then take the concept further by creating a food web of the organisms. This really allows them to see how interconnected the organisms in a forest are. Finally they can then create energy pyramids with those organisms.
This is a great hands on activity to teach, apply or asses food chains and food webs!
