Food Chain and Food Web: Bring the desert to your classroom! Engage your students with an introduction or review of food chains and webs with this themed manipulative activity. Help students analyze the flow of matter and energy through trophic levels by constructing various desert food webs and/or food chains. Links are included to illustrate alignment to science common core standards.
Food Chain and Food Web: Desert Card Sort includes
- 24 organism cards
- Energy arrows (left and right aligned)
- Terms: product, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer, and quaternary consumer, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, detritrivore, decomposer, heterotroph, and autotroph.
An answer key was purposefully omitted due to the numerous food chains and/or webs that can be created by students. Have students defend their food chain or web in writing.
