This Power Point goes over the energy cycle in ecosystems. It defines producers, photosynthesis, consumers, decomposers, food webs, food chains. It also contains examples of those items to help the students comprehend the definitions. I have successfully used this from third grade students and even up to some post-secondary course.

Common Core Explanations
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.1- While completing the worksheets the students will be prompted to cite text from the presentation.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.2- A summary of the lesson is included at the end of presentation. Students are asked questions about the lesson and worksheets.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.3- Students are asked to follow a procedure while completing the worksheet.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6.8.4- Diagrams are included with the presentation and the worksheet that is included will ask about symbols and items within the diagram.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.7- In order for students to complete the worksheet or activity they must be able to verbally and visually understand quantitative or technical information expressed in the presentation.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.9 – Students will be asked to compare information given in the presentation and information given on the worksheet to verify it or prove it wrong.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.10 – Students should be able to read and comprehend the text given to them in the power point presentation, worksheet, and activity.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.5.4 – Students should be able to determine the general meaning and vocabulary words in the relevant text.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.5.7- Students should be able to demonstrate the ability to quickly locate answers to questions on the worksheet while the power point is being presented.
