Here are 20 multi-step, real world word problems using "food" as its theme! This resource is in task card format THAT ALSO INCLUDES AN OPTIONAL EXTENDED THINKING COMPONENT FOR EVERY TASK CARD WORD PROBLEM!!! ALTOGETHER, THIS RESOURCE HAS OVER 60 COMPUTATIONS AVAILABLE!
For more teaching options, I have included three formats:
1. FULL SIZE COLOR SLIDES FOR PROJECTION ON A WHITEBOARD
2. PRINTABLE FULL SIZE TASK CARDS IN BLACK AND WHITE (perfect for math centers or number stations)
3. PRINTABLE BLACK AND WHITE MINI-FORMAT-WITH 4 TASK CARDS PER PAGE-this is a great economical option when paper or limited copies are an issue
Each task card is clearly labeled with "Step One" and "Step Two". This visual guide will act as a reminder to students as they sequentially work through these multi-step math problems.
These word problems include all four operations, giving students plenty of practice with algorithms.
PRINTABLE STUDENT ANSWER DOCUMENTS INCLUDED
Included are several printable options for a very valuable tool: student answer documents. THESE ARE EXCELLENT FOR REINFORCING ACCOUNTABILITY- as we all know some students do not work as efficiently as they should when working in less structured environments such as small collaborative groups or at work stations- that is why I have found printable student answer documents to be invaluable tools I cannot do without! I have found GREAT SUCCESS when printable student answer documents are given to students- especially 504 students and special education students--they are extremely effective as visual reminders of the work the student is expected to do during a given work time. These documents also make it very easy for the teacher to identify the amount of work and the thoroughness of work done- I strongly encourage you to try it yourself! I think you will be pleased with the results.
Student answer documents also provide easy tools for creating differentiated assignments (circle the specific task cards a student should complete or use the non-numbered document and manually add the specific numbers you want the student to complete.)
PERFECT FOR REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION OR RECORDKEEPING
When documentation of authentic student work is required for IEP folders, 504 modifications, re-evaluation conferences, referral conferences, or parent-teacher conferences/student portfolios- a student answer document is an excellent piece of recorded progress (or lack of effort!)
Answer keys are included in several formats:
FULL SIZE SLIDES (they follow the word problem task card)
PRINTABLE TASK CARDS-when student self-checking is preferred
PRINTABLE TEACHER-FRIENDLY ANSWER KEYS
FLEXIBILITY OF USE
Use this resource at work stations, in small groups, as test prep, on a white board for whole class teaching or review, as a morning warm up, at transition time- etc.
You can never have too many of these types of resources to challenge children and give them plenty of meaningful (and fun) practice to meet Common Core expectations.
