This file contains an activity that you can do as a warm-up, cool-down, or just any time you are looking to get the students moving. It can be done at any grade level and can be modified however you feel fit, depending on the students you have in class. It’s called “ Food Group Storage,” and it is to help reinforce the idea of the food groups. It’s a great way to tie physical fitness into Nutrition by combining both at the same time. It requires the following concepts to be worked on during the activity: cooperation, teamwork, communication, sportsmanship, loco-motor skills, speed, quickness, agility, and dodging. The activity uses very little equipment, that incorporates the food groups into a team based game so that students can recall certain foods to specific food groups. This allows the students to recognize where foods belong in certain food groups while being physically active during the game. A great game that the students enjoy without realizing the main concept is to get the food groups across to them in a different manner. Enjoy!
