“I Tried It’ Slips
Note to Parents
6 Food Group Posters; Fruits/Vegetables, Proteins/Meats, Dairy, Grains, Junk Food, Mixed Food Groups (color copy and laminate)
Instructions for Use
Photocopy enough ‘I Tried It’ slips to send home 10 with each student.
Copy the parent note, attach the slips and send home.
Set up a bulletin board with the food group posters, leaving space under each to post the slips when they came back.
I place Fruits/Vegetables, Proteins/Meats, Dairy, Grains at the top. Junk Food and Mixed Food Groups go on the bottom. The mixed foods are for when a child brings a slip with a food such as stew, where there are ingredients from several food groups.
During your whole group time, have the student who brought in the slip sort their food into the correct group. This is a great opportunity for discussion! (ie: pizza can be junk food or it can be healthy. How can we make it healthy?)
