Food, Inc...What are we eating when we buy processed foods? Where does our meat come from? These are the kind of things we learn about in this documentary and I highly recommend watching it with your class. I split these worksheets in to three parts.
Part One: (30 mins - 1 hour) pdf & docx
This is a pre-viewing discussion. The aim is to get the students focused on 4 of the main foods mentioned in the documentary. These are chicken, beef, pork and corn. There are 24 questions in total between each food. Includes 4 pictures as visual aids for discussion.
Part Two: (2-3 hours) pdf & docx
Consists of 32 comprehensive questions that can be completed after watching the documentary Food Inc. I suggest getting the students to write notes about important events, figures/numbers as these are part of the questions. (answers included)
Part Three: (1-2 hours) pdf & docx
This an add on that I decided to give my class (grade 9) so they could understand a little better about what ingredients they eat every time they drink or eat processed food. This part is best done on the computer and needs internet connection for research. (possibly used as part of a nutrition class)
How can movies help students learn English?
Learning from movies is motivating and enjoyable
- Sometimes students need a change in style, and movies are generally an integral
part of a student's life.
Movies provides authentic and varied language
- It's always a good idea to introduce students examples of English in real
situations. This includes accents different to your own.
Movies gives a visual context
- This gives the student the ability to interpret the language in full visual context.
To see such visual supports as facial expressions and gestures simultaneously.
Variety and flexibility
- Movies can also act as a springboard for follow-up tasks such as discussions,
debates on social issues, role plays, reconstructing a dialogue or summarising.
