What is the purpose of this bulletin board?
This bulletin board is designed to encourage independent reading. I created a large “food truck menu” for students to choose from a variety of tasks related to the book they are reading. For example: Re-design the front cover of the book you’re reading based on the different themes throughout the novel.
How does the bulletin board work?
Picture this: some of your students are finishing their assignment early and you want the learning process to continue. Students can choose their independent reading novel and select a task from the food truck menu. Everyone in the classroom is now working on something that will improve their ELA skills. I also included a point system to help encourage and motivate students to use the interactive bulletin board. For instance: If they “order a drink” a re-create the front cover, they can earn up to 3 extra credit points. You are by no means obligated to use the point system, but it is an excellent form of positive reinforcement.
HOW TO IMPLEMENT:
1. I’ve included an 8.5”x 11” version of the food truck if you’d like to have students keep it in their folder and refer to it that way.
2. In the file titled “Food Truck LARGE Format”, you’ll need to print with 56”x24”. I printed mine at Office Max.
3. Laminate the menu & the food truck. When hanging them, they should line up evenly with each other as seen in the picture!
