This packet contains 54 colorful food cards that may be used to help early childhood and kindergarten students learn to label and categorize foods, learn math concepts and improve word finding skills, while playing a modified War Card game.
Cards include 12 fruits, 15 vegetables, 7 grains, 7 meats , 12 sweets and 1 soup.
Make 1 -2 sets of cards, laminate, and cut out cards. Deal all of the cards so each player has an equal number of cards. Each player turns over a card and says the name of their food. Whoever has the highest number (i.e., numbers 1 – 3 in the upper left corner of the card) keeps the cards. If players have the same high number turn over another card. After all cards are played, each player counts their cards. Whoever has the largest number of cards wins the game. This activity teaches animal names as well as math concepts such as more, less, highest and lowest.
These cards may also be used to play Memory and Go Fish. Have students categorize foods into food groups. Once the child becomes comfortable with naming the items correctly, have them name of the animals quickly to improve word finding skills.
