This assignment is perfect for the school's computer lab, homework, or can be modified for in-class use.
The provided data sheet lists 18 plants and animals of the Pacific Northwest ecosystem. The data lists all predators and prey for each animal. Students are tasked to use the information to design an accurate food web. The preferred method would be via MS-Word and using the Internet to find pictures. However, I have also done this in class with magazine photos or hand-drawn pictures on either paper or posters.
Students love the assignment and it reinforces the correct pattern for drawing arrows to show the interlocking levels of a food web. With the provided data the assignment is also much faster to complete since students do not have to research every animals predators and prey.
This data paper is provided as an MS-Word document so you can modify as needed to fit your classroom.
