Within the 20 slide presentation, 12 slides are a review of the food web and energy pyramid and then from slides 13-20 the Chaparral Food Web Lab Activity is presented. The objectives of the lab are:
•To be able to group different organisms into their correct biological niches.
•To show the energy flow through a food chain by constructing model food chains and food webs with the given drawings of organisms.
•To describe how pollutants can be transferred from one organism to another and magnified through the food chain.
•To be able to predict what might happen if one organism is removed from the food web
Students will sort the organisms into groups on a poster paper, then draw in different colors whether they are energy, producers, herbivores, carnivores, or decomposers. After cutting out the organisms, they will place them under the correct category, draw arrows and determine how far up the food web the DDT chemical would go. At the end there are analysis questions to answer.
Included is the presentation, the organisms page and a pdf "how to" page of the lab activity.
