For this activity, groups of students will create a simple food web from cards that have the names and pictures of producers and consumers (for example, grass, mouse, hawk) and yarn. They must work together to identify all of the feeding relationships. Then, they will roll a die cube to determine which organism is removed. After removing an organism from the web, they discuss and write a short summary of the implications to the ecosystem. The summaries are all collected together onto a class chart.
To complete this activity as directed, you will need to supply your own yarn, scissors, sticky notes and dice.
This is a 4-page pdf file. The first two pages are notes for the teacher. The third page contains the cards that should be printed for each group and cut apart. The last page is an idea of how to create the summary chart to go on the wall.
