This unit is designed for 8th graders on the Virginia Alternative Assessment Standard for Science. The assessments in this unit are carefully designed to address all concepts of the below VAAP standard, even those with in the stem.

The Animal Needs assessments at the end of the unit require students to investigate and understand how the plants and animals interact. The food webs and pyramids that include the sun and humans meet the requirements of the students understanding nonliving components of an ecosystem and where humans fit in.
The Animal Needs assessments address and underwater ecosystem and a ecosystem in a forest, exceeding the criteria of one ecosystem.
