This 6-8 week unit plan is designed to introduce students to find out where their food comes from. It is too often that we don't question what we eat and learning about it has been a huge hit in my Gr. 5/6 classroom.

There are many programs out there (B.C. Residents, grow your own potatoes with B.C. Agriculture's Spuds in Tubs Program) that I would suggest you look into to compliment this resource but are not required. The look students get when they eat food that they grew themselves is indescribable!

This unit has so many activities to guide students through their exploration of food and agriculture. Included are the following:

►Prior knowledge graphic organizers
►"What's in YOUR Lunchbox?"
►"Gee how did that get there?"
►"Fruit Salad, Look how far you've come!"
►"Question Bananas" Webquest
►"Trading Commodities for a Balanced Diet:" Activity
►"Farming Practices Then & Now"
►"Ranching Practices Then & Now"
►"Fishing Practices Then & Now"
►Definition Matching
►"Where do these items come from?"
►Research a Local Fruit/Vegetable
►"Farmer's Market"
