With one page of animals listed by name and clip art illustration, students create a food web in any format or organization they so choose. I typically give a large poster sized paper for this part. They then progress to coding the food web with shapes and highlighters to see how many of each producers, consumers, and decomposers their web contains. Finally they then analyze their final product to find the most important and most adapted to survive organisms within the web, and take a look at the effects of taking components out of it.
I usually allow a partner or group for this, the discussions they have are SO excellent!
This file is in Word 2014, so the formatting should fit to three pages with the margins set to narrow and can be edited for your specific needs.
