This board game gives students a chance to practice their speaking using adverbs of degree, the future tense, and evidence to support an opinion.
Materials needed, not included: marker for each student, number cube for every four students
1. Student one rolls the number cube and moves his/her piece. He she then reads what is written on the square aloud and must give his/her opinion on the likelihood of that event happening.
Example: The square says, “no one will learn to drive, we will all have self- driving cars”
Student response: “I think it is very likely that we won’t learn how to drive because self-driving cars will be safer and easier than the cars of today.”
2. If the student is able to give a grammatically correct answer that makes sense and uses all three required components: an adverb of degree, the future tense, a reason for his/her opinion (because), he/she stays on the square. If not, he/she returns to the previously occupied space.
3. Play continues around the circle.
4. The first player to reach finish is the winner.
If you want to make the game more challenging, set a time (30 seconds) that students must talk for, rather than requiring only a single sentence
