Sight Words or High Frequency Words, depending on what you know them as, are very important for young readers and writers to master.
These 2 journal writing covers will help your beginning readers and writer have quick and easy access to finding the sight words they need.
I took the sight words most frequently used by kindergarteners and transfers them into color coded boxes for easy and quick finding. I made sure when organizing the word boxes that each word in one color box, began with a different initial letter sound. I tried to make it as easy as possible for my students to find the words quickly. Also included on the front cover is a word endings box.
I suggest to also make poster size copies of these two word lists to use in large group writing lessons and small group writing lessons. I often refer to these posters when my class is waiting for other kids to transition to the next activity. It is a good time filler and review.
I have had the first grade teachers, some second grade teachers, and the special education teachers in my building ask for copies to use with their struggling students. I hope you find these useful.
