This is a great nonfiction book to read with your Social Studies classes or ELA classes when you are covering the Civil War or Civil Rights movement. A true story of a lady in the 1800's, prior to the civil war, opening up a school for African Americans in Conneticut.
You will need to obtain the copies of the book 'Forbidden School House' by Suzanne Jurmain. I used it in my Social Studies class as a bell ringer everyday over the course of 3 weeks while I covered the North vs. South and Civil War.
