Bundle Description
This Force and Motion set of 5E Unit Plans AND Science Stations is a combination of two inquiry-based units using the 5E Model lesson plans AND the Third Grade Science Stations for Force and Motion. It includes three resources to teach Force and Motion.

Balanced and Unbalanced Forces Unit
The balanced and unbalanced forces 5E Model Unit, including the concepts of friction, gravity, and motion as they pertain to balanced and unbalanced forces. The unit includes three parts per 5E (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate) and more.

Patterns in Motion Unit
The Patterns in Motion 5E Model Unit Plan focuses on patterns in motion, including the concepts of forces that affect patterns in motion. Throughout the unit students make observations and measurements of an object's motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion. The unit includes three parts for each 5E (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate) and more.

What is the 5E Instructional Model?
The 5E Model is student-led, with the teacher acting mainly as the facilitator. Through open-ended questions, real-life experiences, guided investigations, and research, the students gain a deep understanding of the scientific topics that are covered in the lessons. Each stage of the model serves as a foundation to the next, creating a coherent model that frames lessons, activities, and units.

Science Stations Include
Watch - Students watch a video about force and answer questions.
Play - Students interact with a video game that runs a car along different surfaced. They then respond to questions about their experience.
Investigate - Students investigate how a balloon moved based on the size of the balloon and answer questions about it.
Diagram - Students draw a diagram of a slide with certain specifications, label their diagram and answer questions about it.
Read - Students read a passage and answer questions about push and pull forces.
Model - Students model how to create a bigger force and answer questions about their model.
Explore - Students explore how a pinwheel moves and answer questions about it.
Sort - Students sort push and pull forces and explain their reasoning.
Differentiated Responses
Each station includes three or four different ways to respond to the experience at the station: short answer questions, fill-in the blank questions, task cards with short answers, task cards with multiple choice. All the variations are similar to one another. Choose the format that best fits your classroom. Students are encouraged to use their science journal. Worksheets are included as well.

Each station is designed to last about 15-20 minutes. Students may do one a day for 8 days, 2 a day for two days, or any format that works for your classroom.
