Product Description
Students will demonstrate how to measure acceleration and “deceleration.” They will calculate their acceleration over a 20 m run and then graph the results.

Each student will measure their acceleration over a 20 m run. Two students will run 20 m from the start line and accelerate to as fast as they can go. At the 20 m line, they will stop. At 5 meter intervals the time will be recorded by the timers. On the data table, students will record the times under the distance they traveled. From this data they will be able to calculate their velocity at each point.

This is a great activity to get your students up and moving, and they love to compete against each other to see who has the highest rate of acceleration.

I have used this as a small group activity as well as a whole class activity, depending on the needs of my students.
