The Force and Motion Experiment and Project includes two days worth of lessons. It can be used independently, but is also part of the Force and Motion STEM Unit (see link below). Students will be using the scientific method to provide evidence that a change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object. They will work in small groups to create roller coasters that will be used in the development of their experiment. They will complete the following steps in the scientific method: Problem, Hypothesis, Procedure, Observations & Data, and Conclusion. Students will have an opportunity to then create a product to further demonstrate their learning including: creating a force meter and measuring forces of various objects, making a force and motion mobile, or creating a game board or card game about force and motion concepts.
