PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Forces- A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a collection of the following four SMARTBoard presentations:
Work and Energy – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation in line with the Standards of Learning for the state of Virginia.
Force, Motion, and Energy
4.2 The student will investigate and understand characteristics and interactions of moving objects. Key concepts include
a) motion is described by an object’s direction and speed;
d) moving objects have kinetic energy.

4.3 The student will investigate and understand the characteristics of electricity. Key concepts include
d) the ability of electrical energy to be transformed into light and motion, and to produce heat;

It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction to work and energy terminology (work, energy, potential energy, and kinetic energy).
• Illustration/description of kinetic energy in an everyday setting.
• Forms of energy (chemical, light, mechanical, thermal, nuclear, and electrical).
• Transforming energy and transferring energy.


The last 2 slides are white-background slides used for the printables. The printables are already in PDF form in the package. The white-background pages are not included in the total pages. I include them in case you would like to change any of the data and recreate the printables.

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• Activity one has students identifying terminology through a matching activity. Terms included are chemical energy, mechanical energy, thermal energy, electrical energy, light energy, nuclear energy, work, kinetic energy, potential energy, transferring energy, transforming energy, and energy.
• Activity two has students identifying/describing the eight examples of energy transformation (electrical to light, light to electrical, etc.).

Force and Motion – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction to force and motion terminology (balanced forces, unbalanced forces, and newtons)
• How balanced forces are determined
• Isaac Newton introduced
• Friction and gravity as forces
• How force and acceleration are related (applied force and load)
• Mass and inertia relationship

The last 2 slides are white-background slides used for the printables. The printables are already in PDF form in the package. The white-background pages are not included in the total pages. I include them in case you would like to change any of the data and recreate the printables.

The interactive/review slides and printables:

• Activity two has students answering questions related to gravity, applied force, acceleration, and newtons.

Speed and Force – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction to speed and force terminology (speed, velocity, force, acceleration, inertia, friction,and gravity)
• Point of reference explained
• How to define speed
• Explanation of velocity
• Force and motion change
• How friction affects motion
• Two factors determining the pull of gravity

• Activity two has students calculating speed, distance, and time questions with two pieces of information given per question. Formulas appear on the page along with a calculation area..

Simple and Compound Machines – A Fourth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 4th grade level instructional presentation
It includes: a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two interactive slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook.

The presentation includes:
• Introduction to simple and complex machine terminology (simple machine, level, load, effort force, compound machine, inclined plane).
• Levers explained (first, second, and third class). Fulcrum, load, and effort force described.
• Wheel and axle simple machine introduced.
• Pulleys (fixed, movable, and fixed & movable).
• How inclined planes work.
• Formation of wedges (back to back inclined planes) and screws (inclined plane twisted into a spiral)
• Compound machines

• Activity one has students identifying first, second, and third class levers. They also will be able to determine fulcrum, load, and effort force locations.
• Activity two has students determining what simple machines make up the compound machines shown in the pictures.
