In this self-directed and interactive webquest, students explore the world of forces and motion: Gravity, Friction, and Newton's Laws of Motion. This webquest is full of engaging interactives, games, experiments and quizzes!! In a first stop, students work through key concepts, vocabulary and examples. In the second stop, students explore Newton's Three Laws of motion in a great interactive with silly examples and follow up with a quiz. In the third stop, students conduct a deeper investigation about friction and air resistance and explore examples. They follow up with a friction quiz and friction game. In the fourth stop, students conduct an experiment about friction, testing out a multitude of surfaces. In the fifth stop, they conduct an experiment about gravity: they drop different items from different planets with different masses and acceleration, and analyze Newton's Law F=MA. In the sixth stop, they calculate their weights on different planets in order to better understand gravity, mass and weight. They finish up the lab with follow-up questions and a series of early finishers games!!
It is important to note that adobe flash player is required for one of the interactives. If you don't have adobe flash player, there is a youtube link that serves as an alternative.
This activity is engaging and exciting, and encourages students to be self-directed! It is rigorous and it is aligned to 7th-grade science essential standards - forces and motion unit.
