Forces, Motion, and Machines! In this STEM activity students will build ramps and test how the height of a ramp and can affect the distance the car travels. Extension ideas leave opportunities for students to design their own experiment and also test how the weight of the car may affect the speed and distance traveled.
Students should be given some time to experiment with their ramp and car by increasing or decreasing the ramp height. In the extension activity students will need to add weights to the car (weights could be as simple as coins taped to the car).
Students could then race their cars against others in the class.
Students will have the opportunity to test and explain their reasoning in this hands on activity to study forces and motion.
