This PDF file includes 15 pages (10 stations for a investigation rotation and 5 pages of teacher answer key, explanations and teacher prep).

Update as of 9/21/13: I have included both a Christmas/Winter themed version and a more generic chevron & dots version)

I recommend doing this exploration BEFORE teaching Newton's 3 Laws. Then, after completing the lab and learning about the 3 laws, have students come back to the observations they made during this lab and explain how each of Newton's Laws is evidenced in each lab station.

This 2 day lab exploration utilizes very minimal, basic supplies (spring scales, rulers, coins, marbles, eggs, books, string, index cards, empty tissue box, petri dish, beads, triple beam balances).

Initially students explore the motion at each station and record their observations in their Interactive Science Notebook (ISN). Each station sign can be displayed around the classroom. Some additional tips are included on the last page of the document. I typically set a timer and give students 6-7 minutes at each station and then have the entire class rotate at the same time.
