This PowerPoint presentation briefly examines the administrations of Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. It begins with Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon and moves quickly to his Whip Inflation Now program. It then switches to foreign affairs covering Cambodia and the Mayaguez, the fall of Vietnam, and the Helsinki Accords. After explaining why Carter won the election in 1976, it then covers the highlights (lowlights?) of Carter's presidency including inflation, the Iran Hostage crisis, the "Malaise Speech," the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, and the resulting boycott of the 1980 summer Olympics. It ends by setting up the election of 1980. This presentation is used in an AP United States history class and is based on Chapter 39 of The American Pageant, 14th edition.
