*Videos are necessary for completion of these worksheets. Please make sure you have access to the correct videos for each (both use the 21-minute runtime versions)

As of January 2017, episodes of Forensic Files can be found FREE on You Tube and through various pay streaming services. The two episodes in this collection can also be purchased as DVDs in the Forensic Files : Medical Mysteries Collection V1 (available at Amazon or other media sellers).

This two video worksheet purchase focuses on science and forensic methods that were needed to solve crimes, murders, and strange medical situations that might otherwise have remained unsolved. These are great episodes to demonstrate to students the value of science and technology combined with the medical field.

*Breaking the Mold (Season 7 Episode 37)
A family in Dripping Springs, Texas seems to be living the perfect life when suddenly their 3-year-old son develops a respiratory condition in March 1999. The father later is shown to have signs of Alzheimer's disease, and while boarding a plane a month later, meet an investigator who later reveals that their ill health is due to a form of black mold in their modern home, which was based on the movie version of "Tara", the home of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind.

*Core Evidence (Season 4 Episode 10)
In 1996, 16-month-old Anne Grace Gimmenstad became very ill, was rushed to the hospital and died within two weeks. Following extensive medical examinations, it was determined that Anna had been the victim of the deadly bacteria E.coli. Anna'a mother recalled a trip to the grocery store when Anna pointed excitedly at her favorite drink, Odwalla apple juice. As early as 1993, tests on samples of Odwalla juices found high levels of general bacteria. Federal and state inspections reports confirm that the company used two loads of apples with relatively high defect levels on the day the juice was made. The genetic markings on the E.coli in the victims matched the bacteria found in the product bottled that day. Odwalla pled guilty to violating Federal food safety laws and agreed to pay a $1.5 million fine for the outbreak of E.coli in its juices.

Questions on the assignments go in order and will help students remain focused on key forensic science topics. Two extended response questions are on the back of each worksheet (description, sequence, compare/contrast, etc...) which are perfect for reflection on the importance of these ground breaking cases.

Both worksheets are given as MS-Word documents which will allow easy modifying to best fit the needs of your students.
