Detect the secrets of the dead. Using this 87 page and slide bundle, students discover the art of the autopsy (forensic pathology). Then, they move deeper – into the blood stream and beyond – and learn about the science of poisons and potions (forensic toxicology): from ancient concoctions of arsenic to more modern homicidal brews.
WHAT'S THE RUNNING TIME?
In the past, we've used these materials as part of a 1.5 - 2 hour workshop (year after year – so they're reusable). General feedback suggests that teachers use these materials as part of pre-existing science units or over a longer duration.
Our bundles contain a lesson plan, presentation and presentation transcript – and handouts and worksheets for 5 separate 15-20 minute practical activities.
LESSON PLAN: the lesson plan includes an overview of the session; a lesson structure with suggested durations for each component; a lesson aim; desired outcomes; an extension project suggestion; and a short suggested reading list.
FULL PRESENTATION: each bundle contains a full .pdf presentation – complete with compelling photographs and neat layouts – that is designed to be administered in 20-30 minutes.
PRESENTATION TRANSCRIPT: the presentation is accompanied by a comprehensive transcript (or slide notes) that provides all the content a layperson requires to deliver an informative workshop.
100 WORD VOCABULARY LIST: you'll receive a list of words – ranked as easy, medium and difficult – that pertain to key concepts presented during the workshop (and a few ideas as to how to use these!)
EQUIPMENT LIST: the equipment list provides a breakdown of all the material required to deliver the session – including the hands-on, practical sessions.
RESOURCES FOR 4 X ACTIVITIES: each bundle comes with all the resources you'll require (i.e. handouts, answers) to deliver 4, 15-20 minute hands-on practical sessions: forensic medicine at the scene; autopsy reports; unknown white powders; and toxicology case studies.
There are 4 practicals in this workshop. The broad themes are:
- Forensic medicine at the scene
- Autopsy reports
- Unknown white powders
- Toxicology case studies
NOTE: Our bundle includes a full equipment list. Equipment must be purchased separately.
