A week long Forensic Science activity perfect for grades 5 and up. Lots of fun!
Tony Stark has been murdered! With the help of SHIELD agents, John McClane, witness Lisa Simpson, and Dr. House students must work together to solve the mystery. Suspects include Thor, Hulk, Batman, Wonder Woman, and many more!
1. Description of the night in question
2. Briefing Report for the detectives
3. Witness Report
4. Suspect and Victim Info (what they were doing the night in question as well as information including blood type, hair color, height, etc)
Goes well with any general CSI kit that includes blood analysis, fingerprint analysis, fiber and hair analysis, etc.
First day I have the crime scene all set up. Be creative! Students take photos for analysis. Each of the following days they conduct one analysis. Don't hand out all the files at once. For example the witness report and suspect report should be handout out in subsequent days so as to avoid students using process of elimination on day 1 to solve the murder. You can also use online facial construction programs when the witness report is released.
Students will use the suspect report to eliminate each potential suspect. They will be left with Bruce Banner as the murderer - he is the only one wearing wool. Therefore, you should have a strand of fiber of wool at the scene. This should be conducted on the last day.
It's a fun activity that engages students and can be modified a number of ways to work best in your classroom.
