In this activity, students will investigate the death of a young man at a dance party. Students will read background information, eyewitness statements, and review available evidence. Students will go online to complete the virtual autopsy and toxicology reports. Students will be challenged to present their findings and theorize what or who killed the decedent. My students love this activity. For added engagement, I often set up a mock crime scene that matches the description in the activtiy. I allow students to walk through the crime scene and record the evidence for themselves. This activity comes with all of the background information, web link, and answer key. This is an easy activity for you to plan and for your student to enjoy.
A 22 year old male was pronounced dead late last night in a nightclub. He was dancing when suddenly he fell to the floor and started shaking violently. His friends initially believed he was doing a new dance. He shook violently for about a minute and then lay limp and would not respond. The people at the party shouted at him and shook him, but he would not respond. When his breathing stopped, someone attempted CPR, but they were not able to revive him.
