Are you a 5th grade teacher? Do you use the Treasures reading series by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill? Well, this is a great Smartboard lesson to use with your students. It's entitled "Forests of the World". The slides include vocabulary basketball, categorizing words associated with the 3 types of forests discussed, a map of the 3 biomes in North America, a Venn diagram to compare deciduous and coniferous forests, and a writing activity using comparing and contrasting. It also ties in nicely with Science if you're studying biology or botany. There is also an A-Z brainstorm about trees as a culminating activity to see what students have learned about trees. It can be copied and students can write responses on the whiteboard. You'll love it and so will your students.
