TREASURE HUNT around the school with clues that teach us all about God's forgiveness and mercy. The clues will lead to the church, where the children will participate in a Forgiveness Day prayer service.
Jewels to make Treasure Chest
The Prodigal Son tells the story of our faith so well. We are great sinners who very often squander the graces our Heavenly Father has given us. Like the Prodigal Son, we have a Father in Heaven waiting for our return. He wishes to lavish upon us the great treasures of mercy, forgiveness and reconciliation. He offers us freedom and the grace and strength to live in his peace.
LESSON: You will talk to the children about the treasures of heaven, read scripture verses telling of the great mercy of God, and then use the clue cards to pick up your treasures!
CLUES: The clues will lead the children from the classroom to the, Gym, the school nurse, the custodians, the cafeteria, the art room, and finally to the principal. The clues don’t stop there! The principal’s clue will lead the children to the Church, where a Forgiveness Day Prayer Service will be held.
PRAYER SERVICE: This is an Examination of Conscience prayer. The children will take turns reading each of the questions.
TREASURE CHEST: After going on the hunt to gather jewels and after the prayer service, the children will make a treasure chest of their own. I fold one large piece of brown paper and give each child two strips of 1 inch yellow paper for decoration.
