This product contains the directions for setting up this activity as a teacher, notes for students to use as they read, and various nonfiction readings that connect to the novel Forgotten Fire by Adam Bagdasarian. These articles discuss the problems that occurred during the Armenian Genocide which will help the students better understand Vahan's experiences in the novel.
This is activity is a wonderful way to incorporate nonfiction reading into the study of a novel dealing with genocide. My students found these readings to be particularly interesting and liked being able to discuss these pieces in the story after we read the text. The informational text pieces can be changed or modified for your students and could be used with a different novel related to the Armenian genocide.
