Product Description
Do your students struggle with taking pronouns out of their writing, removing bias, or writing in formal or informative genres?

Use this classroom-tested handout to introduce this skill to students and break down their options to write more professionally.

This lesson would be great before…
• Your next formal writing assignment
• A standardized test
• An informative writing unit (but is also great for persuasive)
• A revision lesson/unit

This 4-page, print-and-teach download includes a double-sided student handout as well as an answer key; it comes in both a PDF and an editable Word doc. It uses a gradual-release style to practice as a group before applying to students’ own writing; the lesson also briefly touches on revising non-pronoun bias, choosing stronger synonyms, and vagueness.

After this lesson, I saw a visible change in my students’ writing in addition to a better understanding of when and why we want to write this way.
