Formative assessments are used in the classroom to get a pulse on the learning of your students. Teachers take these quick assessments and then use them to guide their instruction. After teaching a concept and believing that your students have grasped the knowledge your standards require - distribute this formative assessment to see if students gained the the understanding you hoped they would.
I created this formative assessment on a half sheet - and then duplicated it on the same below. I liked to make a short stack of copies of these - then cut them in half - and then accessible to me if/when the need to assess my students would present itself.
This formative assessment is easy to use, self explanatory, and then a quick read for the teacher. The teacher can possibly then sort the circle maps into categories and then differentiate any instruction with his/her class the next day. I never took grades on formative assessments - they were just used to help me know what my students were learning.
- The preview is showing a portion of the actual formative assessment tool.
