Included in this packet are directions and examples to guide students to write the following forms of poetry: couplet, hinky pinky, quatrain, like what list poem, haiku, tanka, two-word-per-line poem, acrostic, concrete, cinquain, diamonte, bio poem, I Am poem, limerick, sonnet, and narrative. In addition, there is a 16 poetry term foldable and 4 questions to use to begin this unit included.
I usually start my poetry unit out with a Prezi presentation that introduces students to poetry through music (lyrics) to help them understand that they do not hate all poetry. That presentation can be found at prezi.com. Search for my name (Randy Seldomridge) if you wish to use it.
This unit was created specifically to be used in ISNs (Interactive Student Notebooks).
You have two options with this unit, you can print each page that you wish to use and have students trim around the outer frame and then glue into a spiral notebook or you can print two half pages, which is the perfect size for composition notebooks and then glue into the notebook. Or you can use this as a guide and have students copy the notes into their ISN (this is the method I use to save paper/copies).
