This activity can be used as a math lesson for grades 3-5 in four small groups or whole class. Students start with "Pinching Pennies" and add or "deposit" a penny for each week of the year (52 weeks). The chart allows students to see how much money can be saved every year by using pennies, nickels, dimes, or quarters (preview not shown). Start at the beginning of the year and make it a class project! It can also be incorporated into classroom management as an incentive using fake money. Higher grades may use larger dollar amounts.
The lesson may also be used a social studies unit on Economics.
My third graders LOVED this activity so much I emailed my master answer to key my parents so they could make it a family project.
