End the school year with a fun activity while celebrating each student with a different award that offers them something to keep and something to play with!
Did you ever play with paper folded fortune tellers or cootie catchers as a kid? Pass on the love for this paper folding activity! This set includes 50 different fortune tellers, each with an unique school award, fun "fortune" phrases to answer Yes and No questions, and hundreds of hilarious brain break style activities for students to perform as their questions are answered. Below each fortune teller is an editable certificate for student to take home. The dates and teacher name portion will appear on every certificate, making them quick and painless to fill out. I created these awards, because I find it painful to both think of awards and to know that they will probably be discarded and forgotten after all of my effort and time to fill them out. But the real value I discovered when I used them. I found myself needing an hour to fill in on the last day of school and these awards were perfect! The students enjoyed hearing what each student got their award for and learning how to make their fortune tellers. Once they were made they took turns with different partners asking Yes and No questions about their summer, what the next school year would be like, and even what their future lives would be like. With each answer students were also given a fun brain break style activity to perform. This activity truly filled the entire hour, left all of us really enjoying our time together, and served as a great culminating activity for the year! Some of the students shared their favorite activities for the class to perform together. There's nothing like everyone waddling like a duck while barking like a dog or smiling while both holding their tongues and singing "Happy Birthday."
Compliment this set with a corresponding Fortune Tellers: Goals and Ice Breakers (Click here for a direct link)
set that has a fortune teller goal to match each award with an ice breaker portion. This ice breaker portion can be shared and displayed to make a class wall or quilt to show students' framed drawings of themselves along with their responses to unique getting to know you prompts. I plan to use the goal fortune tellers the first week of school this year and to begin each grading period to encourage goal setting and while building a fun, supportive classroom community. At the end of the year I may give students more than one award to celebrate their achieved goals! The class loved the fortune tellers and a student had a great idea to make them during the year and keep them with their supplies to use as short brain breaks throughout the year.
I hope you enjoy these fortune tellers as much as my students and I would love to hear how you and your students use them!
Thanks for looking!
